RESTORATION OF A KISMET DUPLEX MASTER TO CATEGORY I CONDITION
These pictures show various stages in the full external restoration of a kismet duplex master footpump to ‘showroom condition’ in line with the original painting scheme
The kismet duplex master is a complex double acting ‘pump in a pump’ design capable of pressurising tyres or any pressure containment vessel up to very high pressures in the 100’s of psi’s. They were used in WWII to help pump up the pressure starting apparatus in spitfires during the Battle of Britain
Before this external restoration, the internal pressure parts in the pump barrel had been fully dismantled, overhauled, greased and new manufactured leather washers and seals fitted throughout. The pump therefore now both works and looks ‘as new’
